Charity Thursdays

The first Thursday of every month, the class is a charitable class; your contribution will go
every month to a different NGO or non-profit foundation.

Yoga means Union, and as such I believe that the practice should lead us to be more connected to the world around us and to want to help those who do not enjoy the privileges that we do.
Unfortunately, the Yoga practice is not available to everyone. It is a tool of healing, union and improvement but, those who need these tools the most, such as vulnerable groups or at risk of social exclusion, either cannot afford the to pay for classes or there are no Yoga studios or similar where they are.

Teaching children in the refugee camp on Lesvos, Greece, opened my eyes to this reality. And it was just before leaving for the refugee camp when I decided to start these Charity classes. The students paid for their class as they usually do, and their contribution would go towards buying the mats that I would later use in the classes I gave to these minors.

In the end there were so many people who wanted to contribute that we raised € 1,300!! of which € 100 went to buy mats. The rest was half for the clinic that is within the refugee camp “Team Kitrinos” and the other half for “Watershed Foundation”; an NGO that is responsible for installing and maintaining latrines and shower services, amongst other things, within the camp.
They do a Dantesque and essential job. Upon returning from volunteering at the refugee camp, I decided that I would continue with these charity classes once a month and since then we have collaborated with a small contribution to different NGOs such as:

  • Watershed Foundation
  • One Happy family
  • Connect By Music
  • Better Days
  • Nerja Solidaria
  • Save the Children
  • Ronald McDonald fundación (Málaga)
  • Open Arms
  • Yoga Sin Fronteras
  • Little lambs school

And, hopefully, we will continue to do so in the future. No one can change the world, but we can all do something.
You can contribute to Charity Thursdays by reserving your place for the class the first Thursday of each month.
I am open to hearing suggestions about causes we can support. Ask me if you would like to know what the next NGO or cause will be.
